Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (Abortion)

Our center offers the possibility of having a Voluntary Interruption of Pregnancy (abortion) performed up to 12 weeks of gestation.

There are 2 methods, which can be used depending on how many weeks you are pregnant:

Surgical Abortion - up to 12 weeks of gestation.

The procedure is carried out using vacuum aspiration either under local or general anesthesia. It is a relatively noninvasive procedure, which lasts between 5 - 10 minutes.

Our center provides the option of having an abortion performed under general anesthesia, which allows for the patient to be asleep during the procedure and therefore not feel anything.

Pharmacological Abortion - up to 7 weeks of gestation (49 days).

This method consists in taking medication, which provokes the abortion. The medication will always be administered in front of the doctor and whilst at our center.

On the first day you will be administered an antiprogesterone, whose function is to block the activity of the progesterone and prevent the pregnancy from developing. You can return home immediately afterwards.

After 36 - 48 hours have passed, you will have to come back to the center to be administered a different medicament (prostaglandins), which works to contract the uterus and expel the embryo. You will have to remain at the center under observation for 3 - 4 hours.

Although this method is very effective up to 7 weeks of gestation, it does not work in all cases, and as such you might still require a surgical procedure afterwards.

Whichever method you choose, you will have to come back to the clinic 15 days later for a final check-up. The doctor will perform an ultrasound scan to verify that the embryo has been fully expelled.

Our highly trained professionals will be available at all times to give you the treatment, information and support necessary for your stay with us to be a pleasant one.
